His real name was Kevin Michael “GG” Allin, and he was born Jesus Christ Allin on August 29, 1956, in New York City. He was a punk rock singer-songwriter who performed and recorded with a variety of bands during his career. GG Allin is most known for his infamous live performances, which often included transgressive actions such as coprophagia, self-mutilation, and assaulting members of the crowd. AllMusic and G4TV’s That’s Tough have referred to him as “the most spectacular degenerate in rock & roll history” and “the hardest rock star in the world,” respectively, and he has been dubbed “the most spectacular degenerate in rock & roll history.” Although he was more known for his stage antics than for his music, he was a prolific recording artist who worked not just in the punk rock genre, but also in spoken word, country, and more conventional rock styles. Known for his very politically incorrect songs, which often dealt with topics such as sexism, paedophilia, racism, and blasphemy, he divided listeners and sparked a heated debate about him within the highly politicised punk scene. When asked about his music and live performances, Allin often said that he was attempting to make rock music “threatening” once again. Allin’s music was often badly recorded and produced, and it was only available via restricted distribution, earning him a slew of scathing reviews from reviewers. Despite (or maybe because of) these circumstances, Allin was able to retain a cult following during and beyond his professional and personal life. In the last few years, Allin had told himself that he would commit himself onstage at one of his performances. However, he died offstage from an accidental heroin overdose.
